SEAS Tromsø

SEAS Tromsø was the largest event SEAS has co-organized and this was due to the ambition and engagement of Tromsø Kommun, one of the Black/North SEAS co-organizers and Tromsø Kunstforening, a local gallery who became the executive producer of the festival.

Tromsø is the capital of Norway’s high north, situated only 2000 km from the North Pole. It is a rich and lively city, with a large university, a number of art spaces, film and electronic music festivals during the year and it benefits from its connections to Russia, oil industry and tourism.

A local festival built on the SEAS concept

SEAS Tromsø had a unique character among the other SEAS events, being co-curated by the local executive producer, expanding the program with local productions and introducing artists from Russia and Georgia into the program.

The festival invaded the whole city, using different venues, art gallery, culture house, theatre and even a local brewery, the main square and a number of streets. SEAS Tromsø presented in total 39 different productions, including workshops and a seminar.

SEAS Tromsø became in this way a local festival, building its larger program on the SEAS concept, the connection to the sea and the curiosity for the Black Sea region, outdoor events and an interdisciplinary approach in artistic practice.

SEAS Tromsø was led by Marianne Cosserat, a freelance producer based in Brussels, who was appointed by Tromsø local partners as the festival leader.
