Salt

Salt was adapted as a performance to appear in Odessa as part of SEAS in an unconventional space – a similar approach to Monday in the Sun. Eugenio Barba held a workshop as an additional activity.

The performance was played in Italian. Odin Teatret, which in 2008 celebrated its 44th anniversary, is one of the world’s most revolutionary theatre companies and innovative research institutes. Eugenio Barba, founder and director of Odin Teatret, has written a number of books such as The Paper Canoe and The Secret Art of the Performer  which are considered milestones of contemporary theatre research and practice.

SALT is based on the short story “Letter to the wind” from It is getting later and later, a novel in the form of letters by Antonio Tabucchi. It tells of a female odyssey: a woman travels from one Mediterranean island to another in search of a loved one who has disappeared. A phantom accompanies her in a dance, which brings her closer to an awareness of a definitive absence.

This performance was a premiere of Odin’s work in Ukraine.
