CityScape is the forum which Black/North SEAS created to debate these questions openly, bringing international speakers and local experts in Cultural Heritage, Environment, Urban Design and Planning etc together with artists and cultural thinkers to create synergies between Arts/Culture and other sectors of the society.
The conference was hosted by the City of Odessa in the City Hall and involved architects and urbanists, cultural operators from Europe and Ukraine, focusing on the impact of SEAS on the coastal community. In Istanbul the CityScape conference was hosted by Santral Istanbul and supported by the Swedish Consulate General in Istanbul. Several local experts and cultural managers discussed the problem of the centralisation of artistic and heritage activities into the central area of the city of Istanbul leaving outlaying areas impoverished culturally. As part of the SEAS event participants had the opportunity to visit outside of the more touristic areas and see some of the suburbs of Istanbul which are growing at an accelerated rate.It was two day event 13-14 October 2009, with an attendance of 150. This conference was hosted by the City of Gothenburg, City Museum of Gothenburg and the University of Gothenburg on 21-22 August 2009 and supported by Västergötalands Region, The Swedish Presidency of the EU and Göteborg Region. The attendance was 203. SEAS Gothenburg CityScape programme (PDF)
The conference was hosted by Tromsø Kunstforening and held at Radisson SAS Hotel Tromsø. It focused on regional development in northern Norway – “Art and regional innovation”:
The conference was hosted by East Lindsey District Council and supported by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE – UK) and their project Sea Change. In Skegness the name of the conference was adapted partly due to a collaboration with the Sea Change project. Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeen University hosted this conference which coincided with the launch of the Cultural Strategy “Vibrant Aberdeen” and involved support from the Scottish Arts Council, Umea European Cultural Capital 2014 and the Aberdeen Cultural Forum.
