SEAS Odessa Venues

We worked very closely with entrepreneurial, independent producers from Odessa’s alternative music and cultural events scene, especially with the DJ and performance collective Ukr.Tele.Kom (who worked with Hotel ProForma on Relief) and the venues Club Skraf and Exit Club who provided the link to the younger and emerging artists in the region who the institutions were unable to attract.

Areas we utilised included the City Gardens, the main street Deribasovskaya, the 142-metre-long Potemkin Steps (made historical by Eisentein’s movie from 1925) and the seaview Boulevard. We also used a suite of rooms in the huge Passage Hotel for the 50 hour performance of Signa’s Black Sea Oracle Games. We occasionally attracted the attention of the police especially for our performance of Borderline but audience reaction to the works was always enthusiastic, especially for the Fantomats.

The Ukrainian Drama Theatre hosted the Odin Theatre performance of Salt, two workshops and the premiere of Sweet Dreams, mentioned above, both attracted full houses.

The Opening Ceremony was converted into a closing ceremony – World Launch Grand Finale and we used the areas known as the Colonnades. It is a shame that we were not able to gain access to the catacombs under the city for any events.
